When Is the Best Time to Start a Preschool Franchise? Planning Your Launch Around the Admission Season

The best time to start a preschool franchise is about four to six months before the main admission season, so that your 45 day launch finishes in time to run a full pre-launch admission campaign while parents are deciding. In Gujarat and many other states, the school session starts in June and most parents decide between November and March, which makes August to November the ideal window to begin the partnership. Starting at other times of the year is possible, but you plan the opening differently. This guide shows how to time your launch, month by month.

Many people ask us how to start a preschool franchise. Fewer ask when. Yet timing decides how full your first batch is, and the first batch shapes the first two years. The same centre, opened at the right moment, can start with several times more children than one opened a few weeks too late.

Why does timing matter so much for a new preschool?

Because parents choose preschools in a seasonal window, and a centre that opens after most families have decided starts with very few children and pays rent and salaries anyway.

Preschool demand is not spread evenly across the year. Most families pick a school for the June session several months in advance. A centre that is ready, visible and taking visits during that window fills its batches. A centre that opens after it has to wait for mid-year admissions, which are real but smaller.

When do parents decide on a preschool?

Mostly between November and March for a June session, with enquiries starting as early as October and a smaller wave of mid-year admissions later.

PeriodWhat parents are doingWhat a new centre should be doing

March to MayFinal admissions and preparationFilling remaining seats, orientation for new families

July to OctoberMid-year joiners and moving familiesOngoing enquiries, referrals from first parents

The exact months shift by state and by city, so use the dates in your own area. The pattern of an early decision window holds almost everywhere.

How does our 45 day launch fit into this calendar?

Work backwards from your target opening, so the 45 days end just as the decision window opens, giving you months of admission campaigning before June.

Our process runs from discovery and partnership, through location and legal clarity, training and setup, to the pre-launch admission campaign and opening, in about 45 days. If you begin in August or September, your centre is ready by October or November, exactly when parents start visiting. You then have the whole decision window to fill your first batch.

  1. August to September. Discovery call, partnership agreement, location evaluation and lease.
  2. September to October. Licence applications, training, interiors and fit-out.
  3. October to November. Pre-launch power-up, open house, admissions begin.
  4. December to March. Admissions continue, staff complete, centre fully running.
  5. June. First full session begins with children already enrolled.

Some partners open classes or a summer programme before June, which lets parents see the centre in action before the main session.

What if you want to start at a different time of year?

You still can. Plan for a smaller first batch, use mid-year admissions and summer programmes, and keep working capital for a longer ramp-up.

Starting in January or February still gives you a share of late decisions. Starting in April or May lets you catch final admissions and run a summer programme. Starting in July or later means relying on mid-year joiners at first, with the main batch coming in the following session.

None of these is wrong, but each needs a matching budget. The later you open relative to the decision window, the more working capital you need to carry the centre until the next main admission season.

What should you do before the clock starts?

Settle your budget including working capital, shortlist possible areas, and speak to us before you sign any lease.

  • Decide your total budget, keeping working capital separate from the 10-15+ lakh franchise investment.
  • Shortlist two or three areas with young families nearby.
  • Look for ground floor space of 1500+ sq ft, but do not sign yet.
  • Book a discovery call so we can evaluate the area with you.
  • Check local licence requirements early, since timelines vary by city.

The most common timing mistake is signing a lease first and then losing weeks finding out the space does not suit the model. Rent runs from the day you sign.

Is there a wrong time to start?

Starting is rarely wrong, but opening without a pre-launch campaign or without working capital for the slow months is a mistake at any time of year.

The calendar matters, but preparation matters more. A centre that opens in a quiet month with a strong plan and enough working capital will do better than one that rushes into the peak season unprepared.
